GENERAL RULES

Applies to all categories

ELIGIBILITY

  • Performer must be the age of 18 by October 1st to be able to enter


PERFORMANCE RULES

  • No props allowed - if the item is on your person for the majority of the routine (at least 80%) it is allowed

  • Only solo performances allowed

  • Routines must be no longer than 3:30 minutes

  • No stripping - event is all ages, contents must be suitable for all ages audience

  • Apparatuses must be rigged to a single point and a fixed height


SAFETY RULES

  • Performers are required to use a mat. (A crash mat will be available for use)

  • Any custom made apparatuses must have a safety certification

  • No stilettos - this is a venue rule and applies to audience too

  • All moves must be performed safely and be within the performer’s skill level​

BEGINNER CATEGORY RULES

REQUIRED ELEMENTS

  • Ground element

  • Artistic transition (changing tempo, mood or movement quality)

LIMITATIONS

  • No advanced drops, rolls or flips

  • No intermediate or advanced strength moves

  • No aerial inverts or aerial fan hiplocks

  • No above the top bar moves on aerial hoop

If you have won a beginner category in an aerial competition you must enter Intermediate

If you teach teach any aerials (including pole), or have done a paid aerial performance you must enter Open

Open CATEGORY RULES

  • Advanced dynamic move (drop, roll, flip or catch and release)

  • Artistic transition (changing tempo, mood or movement quality)

  • Advanced strength OR flexibility move

  • Advanced dynamic move (drop, roll, flip or catch and release)

INTERMEDIATE DYNAMICS MOVES CRITERIA


General Criteria

  • Drops must maintain continuous controlled contact with the apparatus

  • All drops must end in a stable supported position (wrap, lock, or multiple points of contact

Intermediate Bar Dynamics (Aerial Hoop, Trapeze etc)

  • Drops must have at least two points of contact at all times 

  • No drops finishing in arm hang or open single knee hang

  • Rolls must include two points of contact

  • Flips must have at least one point of contact at all times (including landing)

  • Rolls that require require significant strength, control or load on joint (eg elbow rolls) are advanced


Intermediate Vertical Dynamics (Aerial Silks, Aerial Rope etc)

  • Flips must have at least one point of contact at all times (including landing)

  • Rolls must maintain two points of contact

  • Drops must end with a secure wrap around body or leg - no open drops

  • No drops to hanging in arms

  • Slack drops must not fall no further than half persons height

 

Intermediate Loop Dynamics (Aerial Hammock, Aerial Straps, Aerial Loops, Aerial Chains etc)

  • No inlocks or dislocks 

  • No wraps around neck

  • Drops must have at least two points of contact at all times 

  • For split apparatus, drops must finish with secure contact on both sides

  • No drops to open toe or ankle hangs

  • Slack drops fall no further than half performer’s height

  • No landing in arm hang

ADVANCED MOVES

ADVANCED STRENGTH MOVES EXAMPLES
Includes but not limited to:

  • Single arm invert or hang

  • Straight arm invert

  • Back balance (on silks/rope)

  • Meathook variations

  • Back flags

  • Front and back levers

  • Roll ups

  • Split balance requiring active strength

INTERMEDIATE STRENGTH MOVES EXAMPLES

  • Aerial inverts of all types

  • Aerial fan hiplock

  • Skin the cats

ADVANCED DYNAMICS MOVES CRITERIA
Advanced Bar Dynamics (Aerial Hoop, Trapeze etc)

  • Drops landing in arm hang or open single knee hang

  • Any drop or flip involving full release (no points of contact)

  • Rolls that require significant strength, control or load on joint (eg elbow rolls)


Advanced Vertical Dynamics (Aerial Silks, Aerial Rope etc)

  • Drops to hanging in arms

  • Open drops

  • Drops involving multiple rotations, multiple direction changes, uncontrolled momentum or regrips (double star to ankle hang, salto double star etc)

Advanced Loop Dynamics (Aerial Hammock, Aerial Straps, Aerial Loops, Aerial Chains etc)

  • Inlocks and dislocks 

  • Slack drops that fall further than performer’s height

  • Drops to open toe or heel hangs

  • Drops that land in arm hang

 

Any dynamic movement involving uncontrolled momentum, full release or recatching will be classified as advanced

ADVANCED FLEXIBILITY MOVES EXAMPLES
Includes but not limited to:

  • Oversplits (front or middle)

  • Needle/Bird of paradise

  • Deep compression (flat straddle or pike)

  • Deep backbend

  • Deep shoulder extension (full skin the cat hang)

ADVANCED STRENGTH MOVES EXAMPLES
Includes but not limited to:

  • Meathook

  • Back flags

  • Levers

  • Roll Ups
